I’d Like To Be A Poet

I’d like to be a poet

And write a lot of books

That other folks would like to have

In all their reading nooks.

I’d make folks laugh, I’d make folks cry,

I’d touch the hardest heart,

My purest thought, my best desire

I would to them impart.

A comfort be to aged ones

Worn out with work and care,

A challenge made to wayward ones

That all must take a share.

I’d choose myself a nom de plume

and everyone would know it,

I’d write a poem, oh so soon,

If I were just a poet!
