THE GARDENS

We walked in the gardens,

hand in hand, many years ago,

The gentle balmy breezes caressing us,

like a love song

Life was a beckoning dream,

bright and full of promise

And our love was strong -- so strong.

We walked those gardens yesterday,

and marveled as we did before,

Carefully we took the steps and slopes

We’d roamed carefree in days of yore.

Much of life has now been lived

The bright full dreams have been fulfilled

And our love is stronger still.

We’ll stroll the gardens in years ahead

Though chair or bed we may not leave,

We’ll amble through in memory

Seeing again each flower and tree,

Each tranquil pond and winding path

Where we would walk and talk and laugh.

Then the peace of contented years will enfold us

And our love will be even stronger.
